Counselling is a talking therapy that helps people to explore feelings. It can help to resolve emotional, psychological or relationship problems.
As your Counsellor I am someone who is completely independent from other people in your life. I do not judge you and I do not offer advice or opinions. What I do offer is empathy and a safe space for you to talk about any issues or difficult feelings you may be experiencing.
You may want to talk about life events, relationships, overwhelming feelings, patterns of behaviour you are stuck in. You may not really know what you want to talk about but may know that you are in emotional distress and want to talk to someone who can help with this. There is no problem too big or too small, if it causing you emotional distress a safe space to talk and be listened to may help to ease this distress.
Counselling is not about giving advice or opinions. It is also not a chat with a friend. I cannot fix you and I am not an expert on you. What I can offer is a non-judgemental, safe, empathic space for you to try and understand yourself and your situation better. I hope to support you to find your own solutions to resolve your situation, or to better cope with and manage your emotions.
Counselling involves formal sessions where I listen and support you to explore issues and emotions that are causing difficulties in your life. Sessions take place at a regular, agreed time (usually weekly) in a safe, private space.
